Information About Taking Your Examinations
Information for Candidates
Summer 2024 Exam Contingency Days
The awarding bodies have collectively agreed a contingency day for several years now which is always scheduled at the end of the GCSE, GCE AS and A-level exam timetables.
The contingency day is in the event of national or significant local disruption to exams in the United Kingdom, being part of the awarding bodies’ standard contingency planning for exams.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, further resilience was needed within the exam timetables. A single contingency day was not felt to be sufficient if a national event or incident had a significant effect on the exam timetable. For example, summer exams could be affected by extremely high temperatures.
For the June 2024 exams, the awarding bodies have therefore introduced two additional half-day contingency sessions. These are on Thursday 6 June 2024 (PM) and Thursday 13 June 2024 (PM). The standard contingency day remains at the end of the timetable being scheduled on Wednesday 26 June 2024.
Candidates must remain available up to and including Wednesday 26 June 2024 should examinations need to be rescheduled.
Getting Your Results
Results Day
Now that results day is here, we hope that the awarded grades provide you (or your son/daughter) with the opportunity to be successful in the next steps of your education, employment or training. If you need to discuss your options for next year, do speak to a member of staff on results day. They will be happy to assist you.
Post-Results Services
There is a service available for schools to appeal after you have received your results. Enquiries about results are usually made by the Exams Officer, together with subject leaders, and your consent will be obtained before doing so. Please speak to staff on results day if you need further information regarding this service.
Collection of Results
If you are unable to collect your results, you may ask a family member to collect on your behalf. Your family member will need to bring in some ID before we can hand over your results to them. Please write a note giving them permission to collect on your behalf, as follows:
If results are not collected on the day, they will be posted to your home address.
It will not be possible to give results over the telephone.
